The Queen’s Chambers
Chinese silk carpets and lacquered furniture for the queen
Adjacent to the dining hall were five royal chambers. Two of them belonged to Queen Sophie Magdalene. Both rooms were covered with delicate silk carpets sourced in China. One of them was made of white satin and the other of blue taffeta. The tapestries were decorated with hand-painted flowers. The rooms had black-lacquered Chinese furniture, because this was deemed the height of fashion in the 18th century.
